What is a studio monitor?

Studio monitors aim for a flat response and a clear sweet spot so you hear problems in a recording, unlike many hi-fi speakers tuned for an immediate enjoyable feel. Most models are active: built-in amps, XLR/TRS from an interface or DAC.

Can they be used as hi-fi speakers?

Yes. Entry JBL models need a DAC/interface; JBL 4305P includes streaming (Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth) and a DAC for an all-in-one living room. Genelec/Barefoot can work as hi-fi if you prefer a neutral presentation.

FAQ

Are ~10M VND studio monitors enough for mixing?

JBL 305P / 306P MkII are enough for home studios, learning to mix, and podcasts when placement and the room are sensible. Larger commercial studios usually cross-check with higher tiers as well.

Do I need to buy a stereo pair?

Yes. Stereo mixing needs a matched pair of the same model. Prices on this page are already for a pair.

Is Genelec better than JBL?

Different segments and use cases. JBL 3 Series optimizes entry price/performance. Genelec optimizes accuracy and long-term studio systems.

Can the JBL 4305P replace regular hi-fi speakers?

Yes if you want accurate sound and convenient streaming. The 4305P includes Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and a DAC – no separate streamer/DAC required like the 305P/306P.
