TEAC TN-180BT-A3 – Semi-auto, Bluetooth and 78 RPM
TEAC TN-180BT-A3 is a belt-drive semi-automatic turntable: you place the tonearm in the groove and the platter spins; at the end of the record auto-return lifts the arm and stops. Built-in Bluetooth transmitter (SBC codec), switchable RCA PHONO / LINE output, factory-mounted Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge, and three speeds 33⅓ / 45 / 78 RPM. High-density MDF cabinet – a flexible vinyl entry in District M’s turntable lineup.
Need fully automatic (self-lowering arm) → Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT or FiiO TT13. Need manual hi-fi + VM95E → TEAC TN-3B-SE.

Why choose TN-180BT-A3?
- Bluetooth built in: listen via BT speakers or headphones without running speaker cables on day one.
- 78 RPM: one of few entry decks with SP shellac support (use sparingly with the factory stylus).
- PHONO + LINE: plug into active speakers (LINE) or a phono amp (PHONO) – no guessing the output level.
- Auto-return: arm returns when the record ends, so the stylus does not sit in the run-out groove.
- MDF + belt-drive: sturdier than cheap plastic frames; motor isolated by belt.
Semi-automatic and auto-return
Note: TN-180BT-A3 is semi-automatic: you still place the tonearm in the groove before the platter spins. Unlike fully automatic decks such as AT-LP70XBT (press Start and the arm lowers by itself).
When playback finishes, auto-return brings the arm home and stops the platter – handy for full-side listening without forgetting to lift the stylus.
Bluetooth and RCA output
Integrated Bluetooth streams the turntable signal to BT speakers or headphones – SBC codec (per TEAC), range about 10 m. Wired RCA still sounds better, but BT is convenient if you already own wireless speakers.
Rear RCA: choose LINE for active speakers or line-input amps (~149 mV); choose PHONO for an amp with phono input or an external phono stage (~2.4 mV). More on what a phono preamp does.
AT3600L and three speeds
Factory AT3600L (MM) cartridge – ready to play out of the box. Replacement stylus ATN3600L is widely available and affordable. Output ~3.5 mV (1 kHz, 5 cm/s per TEAC).
78 RPM: supports vintage SP records; 78 grooves are wider than 33 RPM – use sparingly with AT3600L. For frequent 78 listening, consider a dedicated stylus or cartridge. See our MM vs MC cartridge guide and cartridge buying guide.

FAQ: TN-180BT-A3
Do I need a separate amplifier?
Not always. Listen via Bluetooth to BT speakers or headphones. For wired listening: set LINE for active speakers, or PHONO into an amp with phono input / external phono stage.
Semi-automatic vs fully automatic?
Semi-auto: you cue the arm; auto-return lifts it when done. Fully auto (LP70XBT, TT11): press a button and the arm lowers – fewer steps.
Can it play 78 RPM records?
Yes – switch to 78 RPM. AT3600L is not ideal for 78 grooves; use only occasionally.
When to use PHONO vs LINE?
LINE for active speakers or line-input amps. PHONO for MM phono inputs or external phono preamps. Wrong setting → too quiet or distorted sound.
Which Bluetooth codec does it use?
Per TEAC: SBC, range about 10 m. Prefer wired RCA for best quality.
